dada: sit down on your bottom
quinn: (he doesn't)
dada: sit down on your bottom (more firm this time)
quinn: (he smiles and leans over to give an unsolicited kiss! unheard of!!! although we know he is giving kisses to hopefully get his way, it is still damn sweet)
dada: thank you!
quinn: and another kiss, and another and another!
dada: (and mama start to get teary) thank you! can you say i love you? (he hasn't said this phrase, even though i try to get him to often)
quinn: uv u!
dada: i love you too!
we both wipe the tears away as quinn heads to the next toy.
*sigh* life is good

BIG pimpin'
so today was our (quinn and my) first day of storytime at the library. it is half an hour, the librarian reads a few stories in between singing and dancing. quinn did okay, not as good as he has done with tumbling class. there wasn't enough moving around for him i think. but he is BIG pimpin'! he is the only boy, there are 5 cute girls. one of them also happens to be in out tumbling class, small world. he did really enjoy the "bubble time". i will see how next week goes before we decide what to do.
oh, new q words ... ohfeel (oatmeal) veries (blueberries) fair (hair) yass (class) and anything you say. if you say, "quinn, can you say (insert word here)?" he will. totally amazing. he used to call cherrios wooshies, but now it sounds more like cheerios
we (tim and i) will watch aidan next monday and tuesday and the following same days with the 'rents (not parents, but grandparents) are on a trailer trash excursion. hopefully all boys will play well together.
off to paint, i am trying to get things in order, cleaned and organized for aidan to be here and for superbowl. i want to get my paintings done so i can rearrange some art and things on my pot shelves in the kitchen.

artsy-fartsy
so i am way excited about my 2 newest creations. i am working on a mixed media painting. my idea for this one? and. that's right and. i think that this one simple word can be quite compelling. without it there would just be tim christine. but this word unites us. tim and christine. tim and chrstine and quinn. i also think that the ampersand is really asthetically pleasing (and fun to say!), so that will be a large focus of this work. oh! can't wait to show you!
also, i am working on a quilted fabric painting/assemblage. this one has to do with family, growth, renewal, changes.
i will post a pic of my progress soon, as for now, off to the studio!

the DH saved my night!
so today was kinda poopy. i was just in a foul mood all day/evening. tim left to play poker which normally wouldn't have irritated me, but because i was cranky i was resentful. so being cranky when quinn isn't in his best mood is, as he would say, "ucka". then i needed to call alyson (a literary question needed answering) . so i called, we couldn't figure out the answer and moved on to other things. celery sprigs and tempertures, oh my. she told me a story (you too can read it! http://www.accidentallypoetic.blogspot.com/)
so then...quinn was in the fridge, grabbed the milk (soy milk that is) and unscrewed the cap. let's pause there. what was the mother doing? well, she was making a vodka tonic and a jane young special (popcorn LIGHTLY drizzled with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar). my moodiness called for a bucket of chocolate and a triple cheese burger, but that doesn't fit in with the toning up for Kauai plan! so i wasn't watching him like i should have been but hey, he wasn't playing with knives! so i saw this ( the unscrewing of the milk cap) said NO! and ran over there. it tumbled out of the fridge, spilled all over the fridge and floor and i laughed. if it wouldn't have been for the break in tension a few minuted before ( the gilles' phone call) i think i would have just started sobbing. Thanks guys, for saving my night!
now i have my sweet/salty treat, a little adult beverage and i dunno, i will either choose the lazy route & just watch the tube in bed or i will work on my latest mixed media project.
quinn is sleeping soundly, i can hear him & his binky on the monitor. all is well. cheers to a new day tomorrow.

tumbling class!
today was our first day of tumbling class. at first quinn seemed a little overwhelmed, or maybe he was just taking it all in. there are about 11 kids in the class (about 5 boys). the first part of the class we stretch to music (finger poppers everyone!). he just kind of stared at everyone. then it was "free" time. the kids played on all of the equipment (slides, triangle mats, tunnels, etc.) he didn't really play with anyone, but he didn't run off to be by himself or cling to me which i thought was good.
they have these "dots" that are about the size of a frisbee, but are thin and flexable. my LNF (little neat freak) went around the whole room and picked them all up to put them in a pile. (cutie-pie). then at the end of the class they line up against the wall and they get a treat. a chocolate-chip cookie or cheese crackers. GREAT! i was sad. our first interaction with food being handed out, and he couldn't have any. luckily i had cookies in my bag (yes i have resorted to bribery for riding in the car, and even that fails sometimes!) so the instructor (miss missy) gave him one that i gave her. she said that she would try to remember to bring raisins for him, so that was nice. i think he had a good time.

shave & a hair cut, two bits
okay, so no shave, but it was cheaper that 2 bits! today i cut quinn's hair. the baby curls are gone. *sigh* another step away from baby, another step closer to little boy. i think i did pretty good though. i will post a picture soon. it just seemed silly to take him to get it cut (since he LOVES getting in the car, LOVES riding in the car, he has SO MUCH hair, and i could't see him sitting in a chair, he would be crawling up the sides of things for me to hold him. can you feel the sarcasim here??) so i occupied him, trimmed here and there and we were done. i tied his "curl" with a ribbon and sealed it in an envelope.

uh owl uh owl uh owl
so tim was making jerky (yeah!) and quinn was watching with great interest. tim spilled some of the marinade on the counter and my little neat freak (quinn, not tim. tim would be the big neat freak) said "uh owl, uh owl, uh owl" which to those who are unfamiliar with quinn-ese may think he saw an owl in a book. but no, that is not the case. whe wanted a towel, a paper towel to be exact. why you ask? that can't be a fun toy for a 19 month old. because he wanted the spilled marinade cleaned up! *sigh* that boy ...

Quinn Talk & Oobi
i am so amazed by quinn. his vocabulary keeps expanding 60+ words. some of his more recent words & phrases):
hold you (he wants you to hold him or he wants to hold something - usually percy or a baby on TV)
away (he wants to put something where it "belongs" such as his shoes, his cup, the milk etc.) thank you! (can either mean "i really don't want to hold it anymore, you hold it" or "thank you for giving me ____.)
Okay! (i think this one explains itself)
BYE! seeumomorow! (bye, see you tomorrow)
candle, sandal, coffee, bottle, telephone
Oobi (a TV show of noggin, see below)
Jo-Jo (either Joe on Blue's Clues or Kate's husband)
So Oobi ...
... is WEIRD! but good, in a simple, innocent kind of way. hard to explain, click the link below to see what i am talking about. i dunno if he really likes it or is just fascinated at trying to figure out what the hell is going on on his TV!!! http://www.noggin.com/shows/oobi.php

so i as wrong and it was my fault
per·spi·cac·i·ty ( P ) (pĂ»rsp-ks-t) n. Acuteness of perception, discernment, or understanding.
so i as wrong in the definition that i read to alyson, but that is okay, i like this one better!
so here is my blog kids, read it if you care, if you don't, i am not bothered. i think it will mostly be stuff about may days with quinn and my current art projects and thoughts about them. my only rule? i usually will not capitalize. as i told Alyson earlier in the week, i am not making some statement (like e.e. cummings) i am just a lazy typist, and for that i apologize.
my day with the quinnerino yesterday: we are learning to eat with a spoon and fork out of bowls and off of plates. usually he ditches the spoon 1/4 of the way through his meal and uses his fingers. yesterday he had beenie-weenies. (mmm...mmm you wish you had some, don't 'cha?!?! but hey, he isn't allergic to any of the ingredients!) he did great! he lasted until about 1/2 way through before he chucked to spoon ton percy's back. after a few fist-fulls, he decided that the bowl-o-beenies would be much better suited for his lap (which he calls his bap). THAT was fun to clean up. After lunch we changed the laundry (he had peed through his diaper in the night so we washed the sheets) and put the sheets back on the bed. Quinn to his nap (a good one, 2 hours) and I painted the guest bathroom and did some things with my ebay store. Upon hearing "hold you, hold you" on the baby monitor, i got him out of the crib and JOY! he had peed through the diaper again (my fault, not tight enough). So, off to laundry again!
